Our first iftar proved to be a huge success.
INSAAN held a free charity Iftar at the Lower Earley Crescent Resource Centre. This was another family-oriented event to raise awareness of disability within the local community. It was also a great opportunity for people to show their charitable side in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Guest Speakers included established academic and scholar Dr Islam Jafri and Imam Yahya (Alexander Road Mosque), who shed light on Islamic perspectives on the subject of disability. The evening began with a religious recital by Saida Mughal followed by an emotional and informative account by Co-Chairperson Asif Butt of the personal challenges faced by families who have to deal with disability on a daily basis.
The Iftar was attended by local residents, community leaders, councillors, representatives from local mosques, teachers, doctors and a host of others.
